Datsun 120Y (B210) 2-Door Sedan 1974

 Some pictures from the past summers. 12 inch steel wheels with dust caps are screaming "standard option".

But...those 14 inch Bridgestone Zona Mesh-1 wheels really bring the car alive!

The interior is still in pretty fresh shape.

Bridgestone Zona Mesh-1 Junk Yard Salvage / Vanteiden kunnostus

How lucky was I, after almost two years of continuous seeking, to bump into an add selling a set of 14 inch JDM rims. And the seller was only about two hours drive away. The description and two pictures clearly stated that the condition was not good. They truly looked like crap but in return the price was low. The seller told that despite the looks the metal was solid and the base was good.

So off I went to inspect the goods. All four were in one piece, square, no cracks or big dents. The cherry on the top was the existence of four center caps! So I became a proud owner of a rim refurbishment project. Not an easy one, but it was all worth the effort. I would not recommend this to anyone unless you have serius issue with spare time... Next summer I need to get nice set of tyres, perhapst some 185's at the rear and low profile 165's at the front. Might have use for some spacers too.

But damn they ended up looking good!

Millä tuurilla löytää Suomesta sarjan ehjiä 14" Bridgestone Zona Mesh 1 -vanteita? Hyvällä kai. Vanteet oli pelastettu jostain paaliin menevästä Nissanista tai Datsunista ja olivat kyllä sen näköiset, että olivat viettäneet parikymmentä vuotta tekeytymässä ulkotiloissa. Hinta oli toki kunnon mukainen. Plussaa siitä, että keskikupit oli kaikissa tallessa. Ihan hirvittävä homma kunnostaa tämmöiset hunajakennovanteet kotikonstein, mutta tulipahan tehtyä. Ei olisi ollut muutakaan parempaa tekemistä viime kesänä. Hyvät tuli!

Engine Bay Rust Repair / Konehuoneen ruostekorjausta

As the rest of the car, also the engine bay was in decent condition. No sigs of major rust issues were there. The original paint on the engine block, cam cover and air filter box have some chips, but nothing major there either.

However battery mount had to be sanded and repainted.

Konehuoneessa kaikki kohdallaan. Maali on hyvässä kunnossa niin korissa kuin moottorinosissakin. Akun ja pissapojan alla normaalit ruostevauriot, jotka hoitui hiekkapaperilla ja maalilla.

The most of the body was intact. Some minor rust on the wheel arches and inside the wheel wells. No badges were missing either!

Kori oli erittäin hyvässä kunnossa. Vähän ruostetta pyöränkaarissa. Kaikki merkit tallella!

A Faulty Ventilation Blower / Tuulettimen ykkösnopeus ei toimi

Previous owner reported that the ventilator blower’s slow speed was not operating. That was true, there was only silence or full blow. I checked that the speed selector was working and that the blower motor was getting electricity from the battery. What I found out was that the resistor, which actually creates the slow speed setting, was dead.

So off came the resistor. That happened pretty easily. There is a groove for a flat-blade screwdriver to pry. With small amount of force the two clips came off. No wonder nothing going through the resistor. Where once was a screw, was a tidy coil end and a copper connector. This one was an easy fix.

Eipä toiminut 120Y:n tuulettimen ykkösnopeus. Vaihtoehtoina oli täysi hiljaisuus tai kunnon puhuri. Esivastus oli mykkä ja paljastui, että sieltä oli käämin kiinnitysruuvi sanonut sopimuksen irti. Helppo korjaus ja nyt toimii myös hiljaisempi tuuletus.

The interior was in mint condition. No cracks or cuts in the dash, seats or door cards. The only marks of wear and tear of the past years were visible on the front seats. Seats must be repaired and the source of the bad smell identified.
